THE PRINCIPLE OF CONTINUITY

This is a work that I've made a few times, adapting it to different spaces.  The images in this gallery are from my PhD exhibition at the ANU School of Art Gallery, in 2013.  The title refers to Gottfried Leibniz's 'Principle of Continuity,' which states that "nature never makes leaps... all natural change is produced by degrees."  I use this to reference the way in which I create forms that evolve from image to image, and which at times allude to biological organisms.  (I sourced the quotation from Larry M. Jorgensens's "The Principle of Continuity and Leibniz's Theory of Consciousness.")
